Trading in copper, aluminium and zinc as well as tin halted on Monday on the London Metal Exchange’s (LME) electronic market due to a “technical” glitch.

Prices in these metals, which had not shown any unusual fluctuations, stopped being shown on Bloomberg terminals from 1440 GMT.

“The electronic market is currently in a technical halt,” said a spokesman for the LME, one of the world’s main metal exchanges.

The exchange said it “intends to restore trading on the secondary instance” but warned that it would “require time” and may not happen before the market closes on Monday.

Founded in 1877, the LME accounts for the majority of trades in industrial non-ferrous metal contracts, totaling 4 billion tonnes last year.
